The Nigerian government has expressed deep concern over the tragic death of Mr. Chibuike Chukwuneke, a Nigerian national in the Philippines. Chukwuneke allegedly died from injuries sustained after a dispute with his Chinese employer led to a brutal assault by six individuals.
The Nigerian Embassy in the Philippines has obtained an official police report, which reveals that the conflict arose when Chukwuneke requested pro-rata payment of his salary following the termination of his employment. His employer accused him of violating the terms of his contract by accommodating his girlfriend in official housing.
Despite the lack of justification for the violent attack, the Nigerian government calls on its citizens in the Philippines to remain calm and law-abiding as the Philippine authorities conduct their investigations. The government remains committed to protecting the rights of Nigerians abroad and will continue to work with relevant authorities to ensure justice for the perpetrators.
The government also extends its condolences to Mr. Chukwuneke’s family and friends, and may his soul rest in peace.
