ART X Lagos, the esteemed West African art fair, returns for its eighth edition from November 2-5, 2023, featuring a theme titled ‘The Dialogue.’ This theme encourages meaningful conversations amid the challenges faced in Nigeria and Africa. The fair aims to explore storytelling to redefine our perspectives and our place in the world.
The event will host ten gallery exhibitors deeply involved in the African and Diaspora art scenes, fostering connections between gallerists, artists, collectors, and fairgoers.
Notable exhibitions include ‘Writing With…’ curated by Missla Libsekal, showcasing the work of renowned sculptor Bruce Onobrakpeya. ‘Graphic Stories’ offers a retrospective of Nigerian mass media illustrations from the 1940s to the 80s, and the Museum of West African Art, Edo, presents a special installation. Other exhibitions include ‘Passing / Building / Victory’ by Dennis Osadebe and ‘The Hands That Remain’ by Papa Omotayo and Max Kalaiwo.
ART X Cinema, a new addition for 2023, features artists’ films and documentaries inspired by Ousmane Sembène. The lively ART X Talks discussion series will include notable speakers like Bruce Onobrakpeya and Ibrahim Mahama.
ART X Lagos 2023 takes place November 2-5 at The Federal Palace in Victoria Island, Lagos. The VIP Preview is on November 3, and the fair is open to the public on November 4 and 5. Virtual audiences can also engage with the fair on Artsy.”
