It’s a very somber time in the world right now as the Israel-Palestine crisis keeps escalating with each day that passes.
In a press release dated October 19, 2023, the MTV EMAs announced the cancellation of their 2023 edition due to the ongoing Gaza conflict. The decision was made in the interest of safeguarding the well-being of the numerous employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners involved in the event, all of whom hail from different parts of the world.
The statement reads, ‘Given the volatile state of world affairs, we have opted not to proceed with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of caution, considering the thousands of lives and talents coming from all over the world to stage the show.’
This annual global music celebration will be postponed, with the hope of returning in November 2024, as the statement acknowledges the solemnity of the ongoing events in these countries.
