You know what they say, change is the only constant. Well, the social media landscape is no exception.
Lately, we’ve been hearing a lot about Threads, the new conversation app in town, and how it might be giving our beloved Twitter a run for its money.
Let’s have a friendly chat about this and see if Threads is really about to be a game changer.
Twitter, Our Old Friend:
First off, let’s show some love to Twitter. It’s been with us for a while, right? We’ve spilled tea, shared our frustrations, dropped hilarious memes, and even thrown shade using those 280 characters. Twitter is the SM where the juiciest gist drops the fastest. It’s our online newspaper, gossip corner, and soap opera all rolled into one. It’s where we throw away our gele, face our screens and let loose. We can’t just help but love twitter!
Threads, the Newcomer:
Now, let’s give Threads a warm welcome. Threads is the new kid on the block.
Threads is like a lighter and minimalist Twitter. Like its parent app, Instagram, Threads allows you to upload up to 10 media files (pictures and videos) and you can also use 500 characters to express yourself. You can pause notifications temporarily, restrict users, and also take a break after scrolling for a while, unlike X (twitter). Naija tweeps love to express themselves in many ways, and Threads offers a fresh canvas for that.
However, Threads is very visual, which can be a bit much if you’re used to the simplicity of Twitter’s text-based format. Also, features like Twitter spaces, hashtags, and the trending feature are missing on Threads.
So, is Threads really a threat to our beloved Twitter? We’d say it’s more like a friendly neighbor who moved in next door. They bring something new and exciting to the neighborhood, but that doesn’t mean we’re leaving our old friend, Twitter, behind.
Conclusion:
In the end, it’s all about having choices. Twitter and Threads can coexist peacefully in our social media world. They each have their unique strengths, and it’s up to us to decide how we want to express ourselves, share our stories, and connect with our community.
Let’s embrace the diversity and keep posting, one tweet or thread at a time.
