The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are joining forces to begin an indefinite strike on October 3rd due to the fuel subsidy.
This strike is a reaction to the Federal Government’s inability to alleviate the hardships and socioeconomic struggles resulting from the removal of subsidies on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly referred to as petrol.
Joe Ajaero, the NLC’s national president, expressed his dissatisfaction, stating that the Federal Government had not addressed any of their demands.
According to Mr Osifo, TUC president, ‘the strike is to demonstrate our resolve for a truly independent Nigeria.’
To signal their preparedness for the upcoming indefinite strike later in the month, the union initially staged a two-day nationwide warning strike on September 5 and 6.
